CEO / Managing Director Bridgestone Mobility Solutions / Webfleet Solutions
Thomas Schmidt is the CEO and Managing Director of Bridgestone Mobility Solutions and Webfleet Solutions. He joined Bridgestone in April 2019 following the acquisition of TomTom Telematics, which has since been renamed to Webfleet Solutions. He is responsible for the overall strategy and growth of Bridgestone’s mobility solutions business in Europe, the Middle-East, Africa and India. He focuses on general management, strategic business development, technology and innovation. The newly formed Business Unit, Bridgestone Mobility Solutions, plays a central role in Bridgestone’s transformation from the world’s leading tyre manufacturer to a leader in advanced mobility and sustainable solutions and aims to build profitable business models taking advantage of digitalisation in the tyre and mobility industry.
Prior to his current role, he was the CEO and Managing Director of TomTom Telematics, a Business Unit of the TomTom group. During his time at TomTom, he and his team created one of the largest global telematics service providers and the European number one market leader in the segment of commercial fleet management services. Before joining the TomTom group, Thomas was founder, major shareholder and CEO of datafactory AG, the company TomTom acquired in 2005. WEBFLEET, one of the first web-based fleet management systems worldwide, was launched by datafactory in 1999.
As a serial entrepreneur, Thomas also founded INCO Systeme GmbH in 1994 and the IT consulting firm Informatik Consult in 1991. Between 1985-1989 he studied Electrical Engineering and Cybernetics at the Technical University of Leipzig.
